Excellent low fat dog food!
Our 8 year old dog has treated hypothyroidism and suddenly developed diarrhea that was not responding to vet treatment. All lab tests came back normal except high triglycerides, suggesting she may not be processing fats well. She’s been on a high-quality dog food, but it has a fat content of about 16%. Our local independent pet food store owner suggested we try SquarePet’s Low Fat Veterinary Formula, which contains only about 6-8% fat. We are thrilled with our dog’s response after only a week on SquarePet! She loves the taste of the kibble and licks the bowl clean at every feeding! Even better, her stools are solid again and have actually decreased in size and volume, a bonus for the humans who pick up after her! I like the fact that this high-quality veterinary formula is available without a prescription. It’s more expensive, but well-worth the price. Dog loves it!
This is the most palatable low-fat dog food we have found! Our dog has diabetes and recently had pancreatitis and this is the only low fat dog food he will eat after trying all the rx diets. We love it and it keeps his blood sugar regulated.

My dog was on a popular sensitive skin and stomach dog food because he is allergic to corn and chicken. He developed pancreatitis possibly due to The high fat content of his old food. So the vet suggested that we try a low-fat food, but couldn’t offer any suggestions other than a very popular one that had corn and chicken. I scoured the Internet, looking for a low-fat food that did not have chicken and corn. My golden doodle absolutely loves this food! When it’s getting close to his meal time, he stands by his bowl and waits. He actually eats it so fast. I thought I was going to have to get him one of those bowls that helps slow dogs down from eating too fast. I can’t express how much I appreciate the company that makes this food taking allergies into account. I have had zero problems with any sort of stomach or skin issues.

Great for a dog with pancreatitis
After doing numerous internet searches trying to find an alternative dog food that was low in fat (I was purchasing a name brand that I had a prescription for but it was getting difficult to get), I found SquarePet. I liked that it was very low in fat and I didn’t need to bother my vet again for another written prescription.As others have mentioned, it seems like some dogs like the taste and some dogs don’t. My dog ate a bowl just as dry kibble but then wouldn’t eat it. I had to mix it with low fat cottage cheese and he ate it. He did eat the plain dog food 2 more times but would eat it on a regular basis if mixed with the low fat cottage cheese.I started with purchasing the smaller quantity bag just in case he didn’t like it at all as I didn’t want to buy a huge bag for nothing. If you’re thinking about buying this dog food I would suggest starting off with the small bag then if your dog likes it you can save some money and purchase the larger bag. It is a good low fat dog food.

our dog had pancreatitis and is supposed to be on a special diet–but all the other kibbles had chicken and he has an allergy. this is perfect–no chicken. And both of our dogs love the taste. For simplicity of feeding our dog who is healthy and doesn’t need a special diet also eats this. The kibbles are small-which are good for our 6 pound and 8 pound dogs.

My old dog has chronic pancreatitis & we needed a low-fat food that is not chicken based (allergies).His vet looked at the nutritional info on this dog food & says it meets his needs.Plus, my good boy Gus actually likes it & is doing very well after 2 months on Square Pet VFS.

Buyer beware
My Dog got very very sick from this food an nearly needed a vet visit….Be careful. My dog has pancretitis an i after reading about the food I thought he would be ok with it compared to prescription food the ingredient list looked better or so i thought but he threw up several times an could not digest the food, it was so sad watching how sick he got from it so be careful….
