    A great gardening plan!
The Self-Sufficiency Garden is very well written with beautiful photography and excellent, usable content! It has understandable how-to steps for building compost bins and making soil amendments. The cooking chapter by Chef Sam is written from a chef’s point of view with ratios and ingredient category combinations so that it is versatile for your harvest.I love the month by month guidance, which can be customized for your specific growing conditions. I also love that Huw makes the work efficient and not an overwhelming job. Food sustainability is achievable!

Finally, clear and concise gardening data!
This review is for the noobs, like me, who have space for a garden but have never grown a single plant. I come from a system engineering background, and while I get it that the same plant will grow differently in different climates/conditions, I was still frustrated by the incredibly nebulous nature of instructional videos available online. Come on, give me some kind of yardstick to measure against! The few books I found that were specific to my region had better data, but were not organized well.I found that Huw Richards had some of the best videos out there, so when I learned he was putting out a book, I was optimistic. Now I have it, and YES, it is exactly what I have needed!! Huw has chosen to be a gardener and instructor, but he has the mind of a system designer, and that is exactly what he gives us in this book–the blueprint for system that WORKS. The only adjustment you must make is to account for the delta between his climate in Wales and wherever you and your garden are located. This book is beautifully organized. Huw gives options without bogging down in unnecessary detail. He touches on a myriad of related subjects with admirable, concise precision. If you are looking to start a food garden, but don’t have a lot of experts in your life to guide you, this is the best book I’ve seen.

Wow!! Where has this been my whole life!!!
The last couple years I have gotten to experience what it truly means to grow your own food. As a young person that wants to encourage others to continue to grab their own food, What better way to get their own food to know where it’s coming from. High school graduate I can’t wait to feed my family and save money at the same time How Richards and Sam Cooper! Such an incredible book and I can’t wait to be so far. I’m so into it. I can’t wait to read more and different into my gardening knowledge.I would for sure recommend this book for beginners and beginners because not only this book heavily on detail, but it’s detail enough so you understand and also simple and so you’re not overwhelmed by the information. If you’re interested in guarding book and you don’t know what to get you should buy this book❤️❤️

Month by Month Instructions, Easy to understand, Beautiful Book
I have followed Huw’s Youtube channel for years and I couldn’t wait to get this book. I feel like its a book written by a real gardener who understands when to plant things for massive harvest, not just a sufficiency book that depends on having acres of land. The pictures are beautiful too and the book includes ways to preserve and enjoy your harvests that are very different from other gardening books. Buy this one!

    Good instructions for beginning gardeners
Very helpful book especially for beginner gardeners. Though I’ve garden for decades I always enjoy seeing how others lay out their gardens and enjoy their tips. I loved the hoop house and raised bed covers. Great instructions are given to make the covers however I have a difficult time trying to build anything. Nice book with some great ideas!

  10. Dale Poole

I expected a high quality book and I was not disappointed! The authors have written in a very practical way, without using a lot of fancy and blustery words, so often prevalent when someone writes about gardening practices. The book is broken down into four major chapters that walk you through creating your garden, what you can expect during the growing year, best practices for handling and using your produce after harvest, and how to improve your techniques across half a dozen keys gardening areas. There is a surprising amount of really useful information within. Veteran gardeners will be surprised to find new techniques and new ways of looking at gardening.Very Satisfied!

The inclusion of preservation methods and recipes ensures that your harvest is enjoyed throughout the year.
