Perfect Meat Dupe
Out of all the plant based meat products this ground beef substitute is my favorite. I use this in spaghetti and chili and I don’t miss regular ground beef at all. The texture is similar to meat and it assumes the taste of whatever it’s mixed in.

Gluten free goodness
Any Celiac vegetarian will tell you it’s not easy to find good gluten-free meats substitutes. I’m never without this in my freezer.I add it to pasta sauce, I make tacos with it (Old El Paso Taco Seasoning, 25% Less Sodium in a shaker can is great for making individual portions ) and “hamburger” bowls or salads (heat the crumbles in the microwave with a little water, little butter and some Worcestershire sauce).

This product is great and tastes great. I use it to make my spaghetti sauce. Just add mushrooms and tomato sauce and voila. My family loves it.

Great Plant Based Healthier Ingredient
This “ground beef” takes on the flavors of the spices and ingredients it is mixed into. I like spicy foods, so to me as a stand alone ground beef substitute the flavor is not bad at all, but it’s bland. The most noticeable difference to me, personally, is the texture. With that said, it mixes very well with other ingredients, which makes it less apparent that it is plant based. I have used it mixed with ground beef 50/50 ratio in soup, spaghetti sauce, and chili, and my die hard beef eaters didn’t notice. It was a first time test for me to see if I could successfully feed my professed carnivores some healthier sauces and dishes without them protesting. They agreed that they didn’t really taste a difference. I think they would have noticed if I had used 100% Gardein due to the slightly crumbly texture. I will definitely buy it again. It is a quality product that crosses off some important boxes for me – easy, healthy, plant based alternative. I’d like to experiment with making burgers and using it as a standalone protein in some other recipes, too. It’s not ground beef, but if you like ground beef, it’s pretty darn close with a lot less fat and calories. Give it a try.

Surprisingly good!
The hubby and I are trying to be more healthy and gave this a try in spaghetti instead of 90/10 ground beef. We didn’t tell our adult sons about the switch. Once we were done eating, we told them about the switch they were surprised and said it tasted very similar. The texture is just a little more chewy, but not enough to matter.

Perfect and convenient for saucy recipes
I’ve come to prefer this for things like chili or meat sauce, where it nicely absorbs the liquid and is pleasantly soft and ground beef-like. It does stick to most pans like crazy, even with oil, so be careful if you try to brown it — best to just add it to liquid. Super convenient to just have ground “beef” ready to go from the freezer at all times.

Great product but a bit salty
Overall I think this is a good product and is a great substitute for ground animal meat. However, I find this product to have a strong salty taste to it. I have read from others that this product has changed in both packaging and taste, but I cannot speak for how the previous version tasted.For most things I am able to use this making sure I add nothing else containing salt to what I am making. For other items that are less seasoned, this product is just too salty and is overpowering in the dish. I understand that many products today tend to come prepared for specific uses, but I would prefer this product to come unseasoned so I can use and prepare it as needed. It cooks quickly and is nice to have the ability to leave in freezer until use vs needing to thaw first. I find this very convenient.For the price it is a good value. One package can easily replace 1 pound of ground animal meat and is a protein I prefer to use. When the salty taste can be accommodated, this product is great. Otherwise, in more delicate dishes, it is far too salty for me.
