The original “Julia Child of plant-based cooking” teams up with her daughter to offer a multigenerational celebration of the power of a plant-based lifestyle—with 125 recipes.
The Esselstyn family is three generations plant-based strong. Encouraged to create recipes without dairy and meat when her husband’s research pointed to the impact of diet on reversing disease, Ann Esselstyn began feeding her family creative, plant-based meals more than thirty years ago. She and her daughter, Jane Esselstyn, are bolts of energy from the same strike of lightning and have become fierce, big-spirited advocates for a plant-based lifestyle, reaching hundreds of thousands of fans through their previous books and their popular YouTube channel.
At eighty-six and fifty-six, respectively, Ann and Jane are pictures of ageless health and vibrancy and spend their days hiking, doing yoga, gardening, cooking, and spreading the message that diet is the key to living a happy, strong, and disease-free life. Be a Plant-Based Woman Warrior explains how women everywhere can pass on this important legacy in their own families through the generations, and illuminates how plants powerfully support a woman’s body and mind. This cookbook is a call to action and a message of hope for any and all to be Plant-Based Women Warriors filled with vitality and in control of their own health.
Be a Plant-Based Woman Warrior includes more than 125 recipes made for women on the go, from Apple Flax Flapjacks and Black Ramen Bowls, to Portobello Sliders with Green Goddess Sauce, to Mint Chip Outta Sight Brownies. And it includes big-flavored dinners like Sweet Potato and Cashew Ricotta Lasagna and Plant-Based Pad Thai, sure to tempt even the most reluctant vegetable-focused eaters. Full of life, captivating energy, and delicious food, this cookbook brings readers to the Esselstyn family table, where plants and joy are at the center.

Delightful, SOS-free, comprehensive vegan cookbook
This book is packed with everyday and special occasion recipes, gorgeous pictures, some teaching and enjoyable little personal narratives about many of the recipes. It is an excellent value.I have Jane and Ann’s first book (Prevent and Reverse Heart Disease Cookbook.) This book – Be a Plant-based Woman Warrior – is a definite upgrade in several ways. It is larger (bigger pages, more pages, many more recipes) and the photographs are improved as well. Recipes in the first book were limited because they never included nuts whereas this book includes nuts when appropriate. The desert recipes are more appealing and main stream (Outta Sight Brownies and Chocolate cake with German Chocolate Frosting, rather than Kale Cake with Blueberry Frosting.)It is hard for me to express how much I like the photos but I will try. There is nice variation in that some are close ups of a specific recipe and others are several related recipes on one page. The picture of slices of 8 cakes with 8 scrumptious looking frostings is just delightful. I let my grandchildren look at the pictures and chose what they would like to make with me. Levi picked Peach Melba and it was delicious. Hannah picked brownies, Lemon Pie squares and Zander Tart – and all were a big hit at our weekly Sunday family lunch. (Desert recipes rely on maple syrup but we only have desert once a week and each recipe is split between 7 people, so I am okay with that.)Other recipes we now use regularly are from the Dinner Feasts section. We rotate between Taco Bar, Pasta Tonight Bowl and Ramen Bowls. All three work well for a crowd, can be prepped in advance and are fairly budget friendly. If you are undecided about purchasing, consider trying what I did. First, I checked it out from my local library. After surveying the entire book, and making Three Goddesses Salad, I knew it was a good match for how I like to cook and eat, so I purchased it. I splurged for the spiral bound version because I expect to use this book regularly, for years. I can easily understand why it is now also a New York Times bestseller.

Amazing
This cookbook is full of delicious plant based recipes. I love how Jane and Ann provided health education and testimonials in the beginning. Pictures are vibrant and recipes are easy to follow without unobtainable ingredients. Truly an inspiration for the Plant Based Woman Warrior.

Dr. Recommended this book!
The recipes are much easier to follow than other plant based books that require you to make your own milks, cheeses and spice mixes. I found a video review on YouTube, where the guy makes food from this book for his family for a week and they all review the recipes. I’m inspired to try things I wouldn’t have considered. The authors suggest flavor combinations that are delicious and simple to make. I’ve only had the book for a week and so far we’ve enjoyed their hummus, the broccoli bites, Ann’s Gorgeous Citrus Salad, the Parsnip Soup (pushing myself out of my comfort zone). I’m trying to cut out all oil in my cooking and their recipes make it easy. Because they are conscious of sodium content, their recipes may seem a bit bland. We’ve just added hot sauce or balsamic vinegar to dishes that tasted flat. I haven’t tried a dessert, but I plan to do it soon.

Some nice recipes, not a beginners WFPB cook book
I enjoy learning from the Esselstyn’s. I catch them on YouTube, but this is my first cookbook from the that I’ve purchased from them. Now I am WFPB, but I also do SOFAS ( salt, oil, flour, alcohol, and sugar free), and this book is not SOFAS oriented. The recipes can be adjusted but you need a to know how to make the substitutions. The many of the recipes do tell you how to make the heart healthy, fat and salt free by leaving out the fat and salt, but not how to use replacements for these ingredients (like aquafaba, flaxseed, and chia seeds). The recipes are tasty and not beyond beginning cooks.
