If I could only have 1 cookbook for the rest of my life, it would be this one
1,000 Vegan Recipes, by Robin Robertson: BEST Vegan recipe book, or for anyone wanting a healthful meal, or a money-saving meal. I own perhaps 100 vegan cookbooks. THIS is THE BEST ONE. If I could have only 1 cookbook to cook every meal from for the rest of my life, THIS is the one I would choose. GREAT as a wedding gift or new-house gift or Sweet Sixteen gift for vegan-curious loved ones, or for Christmas for the vegan in your life. ANYBODY can like these recipes however. I made the Potato Gratin (omitting the spinach and artichoke) and served it to Texas meat-eaters who gobbled it all up, not knowing it had no cheese and no other dairy in it.

Changed Our Lives!
We’re fairly new vegans, just over a year and creative cooks at that, but there came a time when we weren’t so creative, so to the internet I went in search. At a fellow vegan’s blog I came across this recommendation, and soooo happy I did.It has changed our lives in an amazing way. I was a little nervous as a lot of the vegan recipes I got off the internet lacked in taste and my husband and I really like bold flavours. This cook book delivered in every single recipe. We’ve had it for over a month now and we use it every single day. From childhood flavours such as Mac and Cheese, to Asian, to Mexican, Morrocan to Indian dishes bursting with flavour! I love her little notes that she adds before each recipe suggesting substitutions or a sauce that would go well with a dish. Any taste you’re craving is between these two covers. This is a women who has the professional expertise and years of experience to know what she is doing and how to combine flavours, spices and ingrediants to come up with a taste. You can rely on her to come up with something you’ll love every time. And none of them are difficult to follow. The recipes are not confusing or full of exotic ingrediants. I find I can get almost everything here (I’m a Canadian living in Taiwan) with exception of vegan margine which I substitute with coconut butter nor do we have vegan cream cheese though I found a recipe on the internet (I’m actually pretty suprised she didn’t have her own recipe for that one).I highly recommend this cook book to anyone looking to enjoy flavourful meals every single time while doing your part by reducing your carbon footprint, putting your health first and teaching those around you that a healthy, kind life is daaaaaamn tasty.

I’m LOVIN” this new cookbook!!!
I have two of Robin Robertson’s previous cookbooks: Vegan Planet and Quick-Fix Vegetarian. I refer to these often as I plan my meals for the week. I recently purchased this latest cookbook, 1000 Vegan Recipes and it is everything I hoped it would be. Currently, I am in the process of previewing the cookbook and marking the recipes I would like to try. Honestly, I haven’t made it through the first two sections (appetizers and snacks, and salads) and I have over 100 recipes marked to try!! God knows by the time I finish previewing the cookbook I will have an arsenal of over 800+ recipes that I sure that I will love because I’ve had so much success with her other cookbooks. Such as Romaine and Grape Tomato Salad with Avocado and Baby Peas, Mango and Snow Pea Salad, White Bean and Dill Hummus, Quick Pinto-Potato Empanadas and I can’t wait to try the Seared Portobello Fajitas. All of these are screaming “TRY ME!”. I don’t see any repeat recipes from Robertson’s other cookbooks. To me, the recipes seem less exotic than the recipes found in Vegan Planet which really appeals to me. The cookbook is a chock full of down-home recipes with easily assesible ingredients lists.Robin also provides a lot of helpful tips throughout the book and writes a brief introduction to each recipes. She lets you know if there is a suitable substitute for an ingredients such as dried cranberries instead of pomegranate seeds in the Sweet Potato and Broccoli Salad with Pomegranate-Peanut Dressing (can’t wait to try that one!!!). My review is long and I didn’t mention that she has nice recipes for Breakfast and Brunch, Breads, Beverages, Sauces, Relishes and Condiments etc.I am SO pleased with this cookbook. I am trying not to overstock my bookshelf with Vegan Cookbooks but Robin makes it so difficult for me to keep my collection small. I WANT to own ALL of her cookbooks because I really get my money’s worth from them.On a personal note, I’ve had on several occasions sent emailed questions to Robin and she has always replied promptly. I really appreciate that and I am not sure that many cookbook writers would be that considerate.I hope my review was helpful and I don’t think you will be disappointed with this cookbook. I’M SURE NOT!

Great for new vegans!
I would highly recommend this book to anyone who needs a vegan “Joy of Cooking.” I use 1000 Vegan Recipes on a regular basis. This is a vegan “Joy of Cooking,” and offers many various recipes for just about anything you can think of. Pad thai, spaghetti, bread, tofu, ice cream, cake, spring rolls, salad dressing, etc. There are lots of comfort food recipes, but also some that may challenge the palette creatively. I really love that all of the ingredients are super easy to find in a regular grocery store (for all you vegans that only have access to the local Walmart), but you could certainly elevate the quality of your dish by buying fresh, organic ingredients. Now all that being said, these recipes are not going to blow your socks off. They are good, they are edible, but these recipes just aren’t as tasty and flavorful as the ones I find in the rest of my cookbook collection. It’s just what happens with this type of cookbook. There are simply too many recipes to give attention to.This is still usually the cookbook I use through the week though.

Kürbismus, welches in Amerika in fast jedem Supermarkt gibt.

I like how complete and varied it is. It makes me think of a healthier and vegan version of the Betty Crocker cookbook I used to love. I tried more than 60 recipes up to now. As with any other cookbook there were some I didn’t like, but I liked most of them, and loved many of them. I usually only buy cookbooks with pictures, but really the recipes here are so tempting and the layout nice enough that I never feel the need for pictures.

Robin Robertson is a kind of US vegan Delia. I already have and love her ‘Vegan on the Cheap’ and both these books are two of my favourites. They are fantastic for new as well as more experienced cooks. ‘1000 Vegan Recipes’ is very basic in appearance and not at all celebrity chef/coffee-table – no photos or illustrations and a pretty boring lay-out – but it is one of those books you will use time and again. The recipes really work. Whether you are vegan, veggie or an omnivore, I defy you not to find lots of inspiring and tasty recipes in here. It’s particularly good for when you have something that needs using up like a cauli – the index makes it easy to find recipes using a particular ingredient. It also has lots of useful nutritional and other information as well as every type of recipe for every type of occasion. Don’t be put-off by some of the US terms and measurements. A quick Google will sort out the former, buying a cheap set of measuring cups and spoons will sort the latter. Most of the recipes use easily-available ingredients – for the few that use vegan specialities, try a good supermarket or health food shop to find UK equivalents.Re the criticism of ‘vegetable stock’ from one reviewer – just use a bouillon powder like Marigold red or purple tub – or other stock cube/paste that is vegan. There are plenty around and it’s a shortcut. If you are around a lot and want to make your own vegetable stock, fine, but it’s not compulsory!
